On April 29th, 2011, my dad, Joe Hainline, had his retirement party at Jefferson County Health Department. We celebrated with friends and family. I would say ‘and co-workers’ except that they all seem to fall under the ‘friends’ category as well. There was a small ceremony, and Dad was honored with state and county proclamations that April 29 was to be declared Joe Hainline Day in Jefferson County, Missouri.
To honor that proclamation, and in celebration of Dad who went to be with the Lord on December 2011, we do what he loved to do: make pies for people. We celebrate it annually on the last Monday in April. This is a day for generosity towards a stranger, taking a friend out to lunch, celebrating your friendships and family, and generally enjoying time with one another.
It’s also a day to enjoy a slice of homemade pie!
