Josh Radey, 2022 HHCF Scholarship recipient

Josh Radey

2022 HHCF Scholarship

$1,000

Josh Radey received the 2022 HHCF Scholarship as the 11th recipient since the foundation’s first award in 2013. A student in the Environmental Health & Safety program at Missouri Southern State University, Josh initially started as a Chemistry major at Western Carolina University before discovering Environmental Health through the SEA-PHAGES learning community.

In his essay, Josh described environmental health as a diverse, multidisciplinary field focused on protecting people from unseen hazards. He compared EHS professionals to superheroes — making the world better for future generations — and called EHS growth “a promise to the future generations.”

Due to COVID, the traditional in-person award presentation and homemade pie were replaced with a mailed scholarship check and a gift certificate to Big R’s Pies in Joplin.

Congratulations, Josh! Your journey from chemistry to environmental health shows a curiosity and adaptability that will serve you well. We love your vision of EHS professionals as superheroes working behind the scenes, and we look forward to seeing you make the world better for future generations.
